Incoming Kindergartener?

Welcome to Hickam Elementary! Welcome to Kindergarten!

Kindergarten Teachers are looking forward to a great year. With Kindergarten being the first step into "big kid school," we want to ensure a positive start. Thus, Kindergarteners have a different opening schedule from their older peers. Within the first week, students will meet their teacher individually for some testing which includes some time to "get to know you." In addition, students will also have a special orientation day to meet a small group of friends and begin to learn school and classroom routines. Please see the information below. Thank you for your understanding and assistance!

Testing:

Individual student testing will take place from August 6-8.  Each child is assigned a date and time.  Refer to the Kindergarten First Days Packet which will be given at the Back to School Fair/Meet & Greet on July 31 from 1:00-200pm for your child’s specific date and time.  The testing will take about 25 minutes.  You may want to prepare your child by saying that he/she will be working with the teacher individually and to just try to do his/her best.

Small Group Student Orientation:

Small Group Student Orientation will take place in small groups, on August 9 and 12.  Each child will come ONLY on his or her assigned day for the entire school day.  Refer to the Kindergarten First Days Packet which will be given at the Back to School Fair/Meet & Greet on July 31 from 1:00-2:00pm for your child’s group.  The purpose of the Student Orientation is to ease the children into the routines of school in small groups.

Group A: Friday, August 9 (7:55 am to 2:10 pm) OR

Group B: Monday, August 12 (7:55 am to 2:10 pm)

ALL Kindergarten students report to school on Tuesday, August 13 (7:55 am to 2:10 pm).

School Supplies:

All supplies may be brought on Meet & Greet day OR your child’s Testing Day.  Label all supplies with your child’s name or initials (e.g. take pencils out of packaging and label each one).
