9/11 Remembrance Parade

HES students once again honored the memory of the victims of what we'll forever refer to as "9/11".
The Radford Marching Band/ROTC, Security Forces, Fire Department, military VIPs, and our own
Kani Le'a Chorus played important roles in what has become a proud tradition at Hickam Elementary School.

PTO Fall Fest 2011

*Whew* our PTO's annual Fall Fest capped off our school's most exciting week in memory (see how our week began below). Families enjoyed teacher-hosted food and game booths, K9 police dog demos (!!), a silent auction, dunk tank, and more!

Service Nation: Mission Serve

A very special all-day event was held on Monday, November 14th, that we tried to keep under wraps because we didn't know if we'd be visited by top-notch dignitaries who were in town for the APEC conference. As it turned out, their schedules didn't allow it, but we did have celebrities, chefs, and health & wellness activities galore.

Please see the November Echo Parent Newsletter for articles and photos!

welcome assembly

This year's 9/11 Remembrance Assembly marked the 10th anniversary of the tragic event, one our students are too young to actually remember (most weren't even born at the time). Teachers and families informed our youngest of the heroes who gave their lives to help others, and some of our older students reflected upon that day and why we should "never forget" what transpired.

KITV news posted a video on YouTube, but we can't access that w/in the DOE network, so converted files are linked below:

Here's another great video clip from HawaiiNewsNow!

Bus Stop & Student Drop-Off/Pick-Up Procedures

Parents and Community:

Your cooperation is needed to keep our students' arrival and departure safe.

Drop-off/pick-up for all students is located on the curbside of Manzelman Circle fronting the walkway that leads to the cafeteria. Students in the first five vehicles are allowed to exit their vehicles on the curbside. Other areas on campus are prohibited for drop-off/pick-up for safety reasons (i.e.: Radio Road, Child Development Center).

The bus stop is located on Julian Avenue near the Grade 3 portable classrooms.

Please understand that the parking area within the Freedom Tower lot is for Hickam Elementary staff, with five spots in the front allocated for visitors. When others are parked in the lot, that can make it difficult for teachers to find parking elsewhere and get to their classrooms on time.

Thank you for your cooperation and assistance in making the first and last minutes of the school day safe for our students.
